About Spagyrics

What are Spagyrics?

Ancient Greek σπάω spao ('to separate, to draw out') and ἀγείρω ageiro ('to combine', 'to recombine', 'to gather')

Starting simply, a Spagyric refers to an alchemical tradition of processing plant materials by separating them into their primordial elements and then again recombining them. Spagyrics are usually plant extracts consisting of the oily components, the mineral salts, the alkaloids, and the alcohol or spirits contained in the full plant itself before degradation. The oily nature is captured often by means of hydrodistillation, or solvent extractions. The mineral salts are released from the body of the plant through calcination, then by leaching with water, filtering and crystallization of the salts by dehydration. The spirits are retrieved by fermentation and then fractional distillation of the fermented plant material. Through this method the beneficial ingredients of a compound are separated from the harmful and toxic ones, turning even some poisons into medicines.

During these processes the larger molecules that are difficult for the body to break down are removed such as toxic, allergenic compounds, proteins, carbohydrates, starches, waxes, resins, sugars, and fats to name a few. This leaves behind the quintessential parts of the material being worked with. Removal of all compounds that naturally fall out or degrade over time leads to a much longer shelf life so your medicine can be stored for years to come without degradation and being much more like aged fine wine. They get better with time. These concentrated and potent extracts contain the basis of our own being. Medicine that can work on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual planes. The extreme concentration of medicinal compounds leads to potent medicine that can be taken in drop form. Taking a few drops or more by mouth or in water/beverage is something anyone can do. Making refined preparations in the above mentioned ways increases the bioavailability and absorption rates into the body's system.

When organic acids such as those found in plant oils come into contact with the alkali mineral salts while in a solvent such as alcohol new compounds are formed such as micelles. Micelles are an aggregate (or supramolecular assembly) of surfactant amphipathic (fat-loving and water-loving properties) lipid molecules dispersed in a liquid, forming a colloidal suspension. Similar to dish soap and its action on oils and water allowing the surface tension of water to decrease and allowing the oils to be suspended in the water allowing you to clean off the oils where before water and oil would not mix. This acts like an emulsifier and allows nano particulate suspension of medicinal compounds in your plant extracts and effective penetration into the cells through the lipid layers. This allows for a much more targeted way for medicinal compounds to reach deeper into your system without as much of a load or need for the body to process on its own for it has already been done.

A neutralization of the organic acids and alkali salts occurs when combining the two and puts the pH of your medicine in a more neutral state allowing your body to push it in the direction it needs to go for its intended use. Excessive water and plant salts can lead to a high alkaline pH or not enough salt might leave your end product at a low pH. Adding salts to the spagyric solution will stick to the water portion. You can dry(remove water) from your spagyrics until there is no more water. Once all the water has been removed excessive salt will precipitate out. At this point you can remove the water which will have a higher ph and leaving behind a more neutral medicine

How to use Spagyrics

The first way this is used is by ingesting it. Personally, I prefer putting 1-5 drops close to the tip of my tongue then touching it to the top of my mouth and taking a deep breath in through the mouth to really breathe in the essence of what it is. Then listen inwardly to your body, paying attention to what is happening and how it is affecting you. Often times you’ll notice a certain organ or section of the body begins to speak through tingling, warming, cooling, or maybe even just making itself noticeable. Pay attention to how your whole being is feeling overall after ingestion, often people feel lighter, clearer, more grounded, or whatever it is that spagyric is bringing to you.

Also, it’s something that really goes great in tea or coffee! Really it’s a great water flavoring as well. It is your journey after all, and your body is unique to you so all we can really say is to pay attention to yourself and your present experience with the essence you are ingesting.

Another use for it would be something topical, for example, Dragons Blood or coniferous trees such as Spruce or Pine Spagyric is fantastic for cleaning cuts, scrapes, or burns for its rapid healing properties and the way it prevents scaring from occurring. Lavender has been used to relieve bug bites. Of course, it’s up to the user’s discretion, and is no way any of this medical advice or treatment. This simply is information about what these products have been commonly used for in the past.

When and Where to use Spagyrics

Taken by mouth or in a glass of water is often the preferred method however they go great in coffee or tea. Used in the morning for a fresh start to the day, middle of the day when feeling a lull, or before bedtime to wind down with whatever feels good to you. What I would like to point out is to use what you feel you want to connect with. Each connection made from the external world provides a tangible means to connect to our own internal world, it is an expression waiting to speak to you in ways when you are ready to listen. Ingesting such a consciousness can bring fantastic inseyet into a situation you are encountering in life, really that is what it is made for.

Often a part of ones health regimen, Spagyrics are wonderful additions to any meditative, breathwork or ceremonial practices. Physical activities, stressful situations select one that is grounding to help center you into confidence. We want you to have your own experience with them, play a little, and see what it has to offer you!
